A financially-successful industrialist in his early sixties, the recent dissolution of his marriage is listed in a top ten list of the most expensive divorces of the year. We shared an indifference for the game of golf as we played the Santo course.
He’s become a competitive kite-surfer and, though his cattle and cash-crop operations are doing well, it’s difficult to effectively manage local labor.
A paradise by any definition, his plantation has also created social isolation. He’s considering writing a book that would offer an individualistic view about the evolution of Vanuatu, which gained its independence in 1980 after co-colonization by the British and French; Vanuatu was also occupied by the Americans during the second world war.
